The KENNAMETAL 7097823 is a carbide grooving insert designed for external and internal grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to A4G style in size code 3, it delivers a 0.1200-inch cutting width with a maximum depth of cut of 0.1380 inches. The insert carries a KCU10B manufacturer grade and features an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process, providing thermal resistance and extended tool life in a wide range of workpiece materials. Double-ended geometry and a positive rake angle contribute to efficient chip formation and reduced cutting forces. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically specify this insert for precision grooving and profiling work where consistent width tolerance is critical.
The 7097823 is suited for grooving applications on turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard right-hand toolholders used in the A4 series system. Its GMN chip breaker geometry is intended to manage chips in medium-to-finishing cuts, reducing the risk of chip packing in deep groove profiles. The insert is held in place by a clamp-style insert holding method, consistent with A4 series toolholder configurations.
Designed for use with A4 series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting size 3 inserts with a 0.1200-inch seat thickness. Verify toolholder insert seat size and clamp compatibility before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop, lockout-tagout condition before any insert change. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to secure the clamp; do not overtighten. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm cutting parameters are within the recommended range for KCU10B grade before starting the cut.
