The KENNAMETAL 7097822 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove turning and part-off operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured in the A4G style and sold as a double-end insert, it delivers two usable cutting edges per insert. The 0.120-inch (3.05 mm) cutting width pairs with a maximum depth of cut of 0.138 inches (3.50 mm), making it well suited for shallow to medium-depth grooving passes. An AlTiN coating applied via PVD process provides heat resistance and extended tool life in dry and semi-dry cutting conditions. This insert is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production and job-shop environments.
The 7097822 fits the KENNAMETAL A4 series toolholding system and is intended for external grooving applications on ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both left-hand and right-hand grooving setups depending on the holder configuration. The KCU10B grade with PVD AlTiN coating is particularly effective in interrupted cuts and applications where built-up edge is a concern. This insert sees common use in general-purpose production turning on materials including steel, stainless, and cast iron where groove width consistency is critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for KENNAMETAL A4 series grooving systems. Verify toolholder insert seat size 3 and A4G style acceptance before installation. Consult the KENNAMETAL A4 series toolholder documentation to confirm compatibility with your specific holder.
A licensed machinist or qualified toolroom technician should install this insert. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing any cutting insert. Use the appropriate clamp screw and torque driver specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten or substitute hardware. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper edge registration.
