The KENNAMETAL 7096910 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precision groove-turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Beyond Evolution series, this neutral-hand insert features an AlTiN coating and a GUP chip breaker geometry with a positive rake angle. It delivers a cutting width of 0.099 inches (2.52 mm) and a corner radius of 0.008 inches (0.20 mm), making it suited to tight-tolerance external and face grooving applications. The KCU10B manufacturer grade provides the wear resistance and edge toughness required for interrupted cuts and difficult-to-machine materials. Installed via a clamp-style holding method, this insert seats securely in compatible EG-U-GUP-Metric toolholders with a 0-degree lead angle.
This insert is intended for use in production turning environments where consistent groove geometry and chip control are critical. The GUP chip breaker promotes efficient chip evacuation during groove profiling, parting, and undercut operations on a range of workpiece materials. The neutral hand orientation allows application in standard right- or left-hand grooving setups where the insert style supports it. CNC machinists, tool-and-die shops, and precision component manufacturers are the primary users of this insert style. The insert size code 2 and EG-U-GUP-Metric style designation should be matched to the corresponding Kennametal toolholder before installation.
Designed for use with EG-U-GUP-Metric style grooving toolholders accepting insert size code 2. Verify toolholder insert pocket specification against the Beyond Evolution series compatibility chart before use.
Installation and insert changes should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, locked-out state per applicable safety procedures. Use the correct torque driver and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer - do not overtighten or substitute hardware. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the new insert. Confirm cutting parameters against Kennametal Beyond Evolution series speed and feed recommendations for the workpiece material before resuming operation.
