The KENNAMETAL 7096846 is a carbide grooving insert designed for precision external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Part of the Beyond Evolution series, this insert features a 3.00 mm (0.118 inch) cutting width, a positive rake geometry, and an AlTiN coating for extended tool life under high-temperature cutting conditions. The KCU10B grade designation indicates a fine-grain carbide substrate engineered for consistent edge integrity during interrupted and continuous cuts. A licensed machinist or toolroom technician typically installs and qualifies this insert on the appropriate toolholder.
This insert suits external grooving applications in general turning environments, including automotive, aerospace, and general machining shops running steel and alloy workpiece materials. The GUP chip breaker geometry promotes reliable chip control at moderate feed and depth-of-cut conditions. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible mounting in compatible EG-P-GUP-Metric toolholders. It is sold individually and requires a minimum order of 10 units per purchase.
Designed for use with EG-P-GUP-Metric series toolholders accepting size code 3 grooving inserts. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamp style before installation.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating any insert. Use the manufacturer-recommended torque wrench and clamp screw to secure the insert — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before each tool change.
