The KENNAMETAL 7096407 is a CDG-style carbide grooving insert engineered for precision external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 0.0300-inch (0.762 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0750 inches (2.00 mm), making it well-suited for tight-tolerance groove work in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The insert carries a KCU10B grade designation and is coated with AlTiN for elevated heat resistance and extended tool life at higher cutting speeds. Right-hand orientation and a positive rake geometry contribute to clean chip formation and reduced cutting forces. This insert is installed and replaced by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert is designed for use in right-hand grooving toolholders that accept the CDG insert style with a screw-holding method. Insert size code 120302 places it in compact-profile applications where close-clearance grooving is required. With a lead angle of 15 degrees and a relief angle of 15 degrees, the geometry supports consistent chip control across a range of workpiece materials. The multi-use designation indicates suitability across grooving and related turning passes. Face grooving applications are not supported with this insert configuration.

Installation and indexing of carbide grooving inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing or indexing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
