The KENNAMETAL 7093834 is a CPMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured in a diamond (80-degree included angle) insert shape with a neutral hand orientation, it features an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating applied over a KCU10B carbide substrate. The LF chip breaker geometry controls chip flow during light finishing passes. With a 0.40 mm corner radius and an 11-degree relief angle, this insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing cuts where tight tolerances and surface finish quality are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this class of insert in production turning applications.
This insert fits tool holders designed for CPMT insert geometry with a C-shape (80-degree diamond) seating pocket. The 11-degree clearance (P code) and M-tolerance class make it appropriate for finishing operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in both job shop and production environments. The LF chip breaker is optimized for light depth-of-cut finishing passes. Typical applications include turned diameters requiring consistent surface finish on steel, stainless, and similar materials where the KCU10B AlTiN-coated grade provides wear resistance and thermal stability.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement insert for CPMT-style tool holders accepting an 80-degree diamond (C-shape) carbide insert with M-tolerance, P-clearance, and LF chip breaker geometry. Insert Size Code 18151 governs holder pocket sizing.
CPMT turning inserts are installed by qualified machinists or CNC setup personnel. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing any insert. Seat the insert firmly into the holder pocket and torque the clamping screw per the tool holder manufacturer specification using a calibrated torque wrench. Inspect the seating pocket for chips or wear before installation to prevent insert rocking, which degrades tool life and surface finish.
