The KENNAMETAL 7093378 is a carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation SCMT3252 and the ISO designation SCMT09T308. The insert is ground to an SCMT style with a 90-degree included angle, a positive side clearance, and a 7-degree relief angle. The KCU10B grade features an AlTiN coating applied over a carbide substrate, targeting high wear-resistance across a broad range of workpiece materials. Finishing operations are the intended chip load application, supported by the UF chip breaker geometry. Licensed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades are outside the scope of this part; this insert is installed by machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is suited for finishing passes on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous and superalloy materials corresponding to ISO material codes P, M, K, N, and S. The KCU10B grade is characterized as offering high to moderate wear-resistance and toughness across those material families. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it compatible with both right- and left-hand toolholders designed for the SCMT insert style. Typical applications include tight-tolerance diameter finishing and face turning on production and job-shop turning equipment.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for SCMT-style toolholders accepting the SCMT3252 insert size with a 0.375-inch inscribed circle diameter.
Indexable turning inserts are seated and torqued by a machinist or CNC operator following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing any insert. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the UF finishing geometry, as chip breaker misapplication can cause premature edge failure.
