The KENNAMETAL 7093048 is a CNMG-style indexable carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and manual turning machines. Built from carbide substrate in Kennametal grade KCU10B with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating, this insert is engineered for cutting performance in demanding materials. The diamond insert shape provides an 80-degree included angle for strong cutting edges, while the 0.40 mm corner radius (0.0157 inches) produces a controlled surface finish. Four cutting edges are available per insert, reducing per-edge tooling cost. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops, production turning, and maintenance environments are the primary users.
This insert is suited for medium to finish turning passes in ferrous and non-ferrous metals where the KCU10B grade and AlTiN coating deliver wear resistance and thermal stability. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right- and left-hand toolholders with the appropriate CNMG pocket geometry. The RP chip breaker is designed to manage chip control across a range of feed rates and depths of cut typical in production turning. Applications span general-purpose turning in automotive, aerospace, and industrial component manufacturing.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for toolholders with CNMG insert pockets. Consult the toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm pocket geometry, clamp style, and insert size code 431 compatibility before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert-clamping hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten or use substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or damage before seating the new insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated and secure before resuming cutting operations.
