The KENNAMETAL 7090556 is a CNGG-style diamond turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting applications on CNC and manual lathes. Built from carbide substrate with an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating and manufactured to grade KCU10B, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear performance suited to interrupted and continuous turning operations. The diamond insert shape provides an 80-degree included angle with a 0.0157-inch corner radius, offering a balance of edge strength and surface finish capability. With four usable cutting edges per insert, it supports efficient tooling cost management in production environments.
This insert is used in turning operations on a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials where a neutral-hand, CNGG geometry is specified. The FS chip breaker geometry assists with chip control during medium to light turning passes. It is suited for use in toolholders requiring a C-shape insert with a 1/2-inch inscribed circle. Designed for use in toolholders that accept CNGG-style inserts with a C insert shape code, 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and N clearance with G tolerance. Verify toolholder specifications against insert size code 431 before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Seat the insert firmly in the pocket and torque the clamping screw or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified value using the appropriate Torx or hex key. Inspect the insert pocket for chips, wear, or damage before seating a new insert. Index or replace the insert at the first sign of edge wear to prevent workpiece damage or tool failure.
