The KENNAMETAL 7036173 is a VNMG331MV turning insert in the KENLOC series, manufactured from carbide with a multilayer CVD coating of TiN, Al2O3, and TiCN under the KCP25C grade designation. The insert features a diamond shape with a 35-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.375 inches), a 3/16-inch thickness (0.1875 inches), and a 1/64-inch corner radius (0.0156 inches), it is engineered for precision material removal in turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert on compatible toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production and job-shop environments. Its primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO code P) and cast iron (ISO code K), making it well suited for a wide range of general machining applications. The MV chip breaker geometry supports efficient chip control across finishing to medium roughing passes. The insert carries both ANSI and ISO standards compliance and corresponds to ISO designation VNMG160404MV. It is a multi-use tool applicable across turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard VNMG331MV-profile insert compatible with KENLOC-series toolholders and any ANSI or ISO-compliant VNMG toolholder accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. Suitable for primary workpiece materials steel and cast iron.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tool-setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket seating surfaces before tightening the clamp; do not force an insert that does not seat cleanly, as a misaligned insert can fracture under cutting load. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specification for the specific toolholder in use.
