The KENNAMETAL 6997705 is a TNMG432MV KCP40B carbide turning insert designed for external and internal metal cutting operations. Coated with a multilayer MTCVD TiCN/Al2O3/TiOCN system, this insert delivers a balance of wear resistance and toughness suited to interrupted and continuous cuts. The triangular TNMG insert style provides six usable cutting edges, improving cost-per-edge efficiency. With a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875-inch insert thickness, and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, it is sized for medium to heavy stock removal. It mounts via clamp or pin in KENLOC-compatible toolholders and is classified under both ANSI code TNMG432 and ISO code TNMG220408.
This insert is built for turning, facing, and boring applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces. The MV chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining operations. The KCP40B grade offers high toughness for steel (P-class) and moderate wear resistance with toughness for stainless steel (M-class), making it a practical choice for production environments where variable cutting conditions are common. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
Designed for KENLOC-compatible TNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, ANSI size code 432 insert. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring of steel and stainless steel. Compatible with toolholders specifying clamp or pin insert retention with a negative-rake, clearance-code-N seat geometry.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine powered off and the spindle locked. Verify the toolholder pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before indexing or replacing the insert. Use the correct torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications when tightening clamping screws. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or damage each time the insert is indexed to a fresh cutting edge.
