The KENNAMETAL 6817948 is an AlTiN-coated carbide turning insert designed for high-performance metal removal on difficult-to-machine materials. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO standards, it carries the industry-standard designation WNMG433RP and ISO code WNMG080412RP. The insert is ground to an 80-degree trigon (W) shape with a negative rake angle, a 1.20 mm (3/64 inch) corner radius, and a 0.6840 inch insert length. Grade KCS10B with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating delivers high wear resistance while maintaining toughness across a broad range of cutting conditions. Six cutting edges are available per insert, and the chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, cast iron, and aluminum. It is designed for use in KENLOC-series toolholders that accept WNMG-style inserts secured by clamp or pin holding methods. Typical applications include CNC lathe work in aerospace, oil and gas, and general manufacturing environments where consistent tool life on high-temperature alloys is required. The neutral hand configuration makes it adaptable to a wide range of turning setups without requiring left- or right-hand-specific toolholders.

Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's torque and clamping procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping hardware for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the toolholder's rated depth-of-cut or feed-rate specifications for this insert style.
