The KENNAMETAL 6817941 is a SNMG644RP carbide turning insert designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Coated with AlTiN via a PVD process, the KCS10B grade delivers high wear resistance with balanced toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The insert features a 90-degree square shape with a neutral hand orientation, a 3/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/16-inch corner radius. The RP chip breaker geometry is optimized for roughing and medium machining operations. Eight available cutting edges make this a cost-efficient option for production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working with ferrous and non-ferrous materials will find this insert well-suited to general-purpose turning, facing, and boring tasks.
This insert is built for turning, facing, and boring operations on stainless steel, superalloys, titanium, steel, and cast iron. It belongs to the KENLOC series and conforms to both ANSI insert code SNMG644 and ISO insert code SNMG190616. The RP chip breaker geometry performs consistently through variable chip loads typical of roughing passes and transitional medium-cut finishing. The negative rake and negative side clearance geometry increase edge strength, making this insert appropriate for interrupted cuts and harder workpiece conditions. It is compatible with standard SNMG-style toolholders that use clamp or pin insert retention.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and insert seating surfaces are clean and free of debris before clamping. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping procedures for SNMG-style inserts. Verify insert orientation and chip breaker direction before returning the machine to operation.
