The KENNAMETAL 6817936 is a SNMG432MP carbide turning insert designed for precision metal removal in demanding CNC and manual turning applications. Coated with AlTiN via a PVD process, it delivers high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The insert features a 90-degree square shape, a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313-inch (1/32-inch) corner radius, and an insert thickness of 0.1875 inches. With 8 available cutting edges and a negative rake geometry, this insert is engineered to maximize tool life and reduce per-edge cost in production environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in turning centers and lathes.
The KENNAMETAL 6817936 is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials including aluminum and superalloys. Grade KCS10B with AlTiN PVD coating provides high wear resistance to moderate wear resistance and toughness across ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H. The MP chip breaker geometry targets roughing and medium machining operations, making this insert a versatile choice for job shops and production facilities handling varied material runs. It conforms to ANSI insert code SNMG432 and ISO insert code SNMG120408.
Designed for use in toolholders accepting SNMG432 (ANSI) or SNMG120408 (ISO) inserts within the KENNAMETAL KENLOC series. Suitable for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium workpieces.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware to secure the insert — do not over-torque the clamp screw. Inspect the insert seat and chip pocket for debris before seating a new edge to ensure proper contact and avoid premature edge failure.
