The KENNAMETAL 6688300 is a straight-shank indexable drill body from the KenTIP FS series, designed for use with interchangeable carbide drill tips in production drilling applications. The body features a 1/2-inch straight-cylindrical shank and a 5xD depth-to-diameter ratio, making it suitable for drilling to moderate depths in a single pass. Coolant-through passages are built into the body to support through-coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone, improving chip evacuation and tool life. The KTFS toolholder style ensures precise tip seating and repeatable positioning. This drill body is installed and serviced by machinists and toolroom technicians in CNC machining environments.
The 6688300 is intended for use in metalworking and precision machining operations where indexable drilling systems are preferred over solid carbide drills. Typical applications include production drilling in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and other ferrous materials on CNC machining centers and turning centers. The straight-cylindrical shank interfaces directly with standard ER collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, or shrink-fit holders sized for 1/2-inch shanks. The 5xD ratio supports hole depths up to five times the drill diameter without requiring peck cycles in many setups.
Designed for use with KENNAMETAL KenTIP FS series interchangeable drill tip inserts using the KTFS toolholder interface. Compatible with 1/2-inch straight-shank tool holding systems including ER collet chucks and hydraulic chucks. Specific tip size compatibility should be confirmed against KENNAMETAL KenTIP FS tip selection charts.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the spindle at a full stop and machine power isolated per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank seating surface and collet bore are clean and free of chips before clamping. Coolant-through connections should be verified for proper sealing to maintain through-coolant pressure. Torque all tool-holding components according to the chuck or holder manufacturer specifications.
