The KENNAMETAL 6687134 is a VNMG332MP turning insert in the KENLOC series, manufactured from solid carbide and PVD-coated with AlTiN in the KCS10B grade. It features a 35-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape with a negative rake and negative side clearance, making it well suited for high-wear-resistance applications across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron workpiece materials. The inscribed circle measures 0.375 inches, insert thickness is 0.1875 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0313 inches. Four cutting edges are available per insert, and the MP chip breaker geometry is designed to handle both roughing and medium machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is designed for use on CNC lathes and turning centers performing turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. Its primary workpiece material classifications are stainless steel and superalloys and titanium (ISO material codes P, M, K, N, S, H), with grade KCS10B providing a balance of high wear resistance and toughness across these materials. The neutral insert hand allows flexible application in standard toolholders. It is suited for both production and job-shop environments where a single insert geometry must serve multiple operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement VNMG insert compatible with VNMG332-style toolholders that accept clamp or pin insert holding methods. Conforms to ANSI insert code VNMG332 and ISO insert code VNMG160408.
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all axes are in a safe position before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp hardware when seating the insert to avoid micro-fractures in the carbide. Verify insert seating and chip breaker orientation before resuming cutting operations.
