The KENNAMETAL 6687085 is a CNMG432MS carbide turning insert finished with an AlTiN PVD coating in the KCS10B grade. It features a diamond (rhombic) 80-degree insert shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake and clearance geometry. The inscribed circle measures 0.5000 inches, insert length is 0.5077 inches, and thickness is 0.1875 inches. The MS chip breaker geometry is engineered for roughing and medium machining operations, making this insert well-suited for turning, facing, and boring on a broad range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert type.
This insert is designed for turning, facing, and boring applications across multiple material groups. Its grade characteristics cover steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), aluminum and non-ferrous metals (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H), giving it a wide application range. The KCS10B PVD AlTiN coating delivers high wear resistance with moderate toughness, making it a reliable choice for demanding stainless steel and superalloy cuts. It is part of the KENLOC series and conforms to both ANSI (CNMG432) and ISO (CNMG120408) standards.
Designed as an OEM-specification replacement insert conforming to ANSI insert code CNMG432 and ISO insert code CNMG120408, compatible with standard CNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp or pin holding methods. The multi-use tool designation supports turning, facing, and boring operations.
This insert is installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench per the toolholder manufacturer specifications when tightening the clamp or pin. Inspect the insert seat and chip pocket for debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper contact and edge stability.
