The KENNAMETAL 6687084 is a CNMG431MS indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and coated with AlTiN via a PVD process. It carries the KCS10B manufacturer grade and belongs to the KENLOC series. The insert features a diamond (rhombic) 80-degree shape, a 0.5077-inch length, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch (0.0156-inch) corner radius. Negative rake and negative side clearance geometry, combined with a honed cutting edge, support stable chip control across a range of material grades. Four cutting edges are available per insert, extending tool life between index cycles. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations in both roughing and medium machining applications. The KCS10B grade targets stainless steel and superalloys as primary workpiece materials, with documented wear resistance and toughness across steel (P), stainless steel (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous (N), superalloys and titanium (S), and hardened materials (H) classifications. It is compatible with KENLOC-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert-holding methods. Typical deployment is on CNC lathes and turning centers in production and job-shop environments.

Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down, spindle locked, and all energy sources isolated per OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening clamp screws — do not overtighten. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Verify insert orientation and hand (neutral) match the programmed tool path before resuming cutting operations.
