The KENNAMETAL 6686947 is a DCMT3251MP screw-on turning insert manufactured in grade KCS10B solid carbide with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating. The insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a positive rake angle of 12 degrees, a 7-degree relief angle, and a honed cutting edge for controlled chip formation. With an inscribed circle of 0.375 inches, an insert length of 0.9156 inches, and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches, this insert is engineered for demanding turning, facing, boring, back turning, and back boring operations. It carries two cutting edges and a neutral hand designation. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in job shops or production environments will recognize the MP chip breaker geometry as a roughing and medium machining profile.
This insert is suited for P, M, K, N, S, and H workpiece material classifications per ISO standards, with primary suitability for stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The KCS10B grade delivers high to moderate wear resistance combined with toughness across steel, stainless steel, and cast iron applications. Typical install scenarios include CNC lathes and turning centers running interrupted or continuous cuts at moderate-to-aggressive depths. Maximum depth of cut reaches 0.3049 inches. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to seat the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before placing the insert, and verify the cutting edge index is fully engaged before resuming cuts.
