The KENNAMETAL 6686921 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CPMT series, designed for screw-on toolholders in CNC and manual turning applications. Manufactured to ANSI code CPMT2151 and ISO code CPMT060204, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with an 11-degree relief angle and a positive rake geometry. The KCS10B grade is applied with an AlTiN coating via PVD process, delivering high wear resistance across a range of workpiece materials. The MP chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining operations. The insert measures 0.254 inches in length with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius. Installation is performed by qualified machinists and CNC operators.
This insert is suited for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, superalloys, and titanium. The KCS10B grade with AlTiN PVD coating provides high to moderate wear resistance and toughness, making it a versatile choice across ISO material groups P, M, K, N, S, and H. Verify toolholder insert pocket geometry before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC operators using the appropriate torque wrench for the screw-on insert clamp. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque specification for the clamping screw — do not overtighten.
