The KENNAMETAL 6676983 is a single-end, solid carbide square end mill engineered for high-performance milling in demanding materials. Running a 1 inch cutting diameter with a 2.25 inch length of cut and a 5 inch overall length, this tool is built for rigorous material removal in production and job-shop environments. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. A variable helix angle of 36 to 39 degrees combined with a variable index geometry reduces chatter and improves surface finish across a broad range of cutting conditions. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in aerospace, die and mold, and general machining will find this tool suited to their most demanding applications.
This end mill targets steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, covering ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H. It is appropriate for both roughing and finishing passes where tool rigidity and coating durability are critical. The H1TE series designation from Kennametal identifies this as a variable helix, variable index platform optimized for difficult-to-machine workpiece materials. Typical applications include full-width slotting, peripheral milling, and contour operations on CNC machining centers.
Designed for use in standard 1 inch bore CNC toolholders including shrink-fit, hydraulic, and ER collet chucks. Suited for machining steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials as defined by ISO material codes P, M, K, S, and H.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the toolholder bore is clean and free of chips before seating the shank. Torque the retention mechanism according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications, not the end mill. Confirm runout with a dial indicator before initiating a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and degrades surface finish on this class of end mill.
