The KENNAMETAL 6676980 is a solid carbide square end mill designed for high-performance milling in demanding ferrous and exotic alloy applications. It features a 0.75 inch mill diameter, a 2.25 inch length of cut, and a 5 inch overall length, with a 0.75 inch shank diameter. The AlTiN coating provides thermal resistance and hardness at elevated cutting temperatures. The 360-degree variable helix geometry with variable index reduces harmonic vibration and chatter, making it well suited for aggressive material removal and finishing passes in difficult-to-cut materials. This single-end, center-cutting tool is manufactured to the KCPM15 material grade standard.
The 6676980 is built for milling steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials. It fits production environments where tool life and surface finish consistency are critical. Typical applications include profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling in job shops, aerospace, and general precision machining environments. The right-hand cut with right-hand spiral flutes and center-cutting capability allow both plunge entry and conventional or climb milling strategies.
Designed for use in standard 0.75 inch diameter end mill holders, collet chucks, and shrink-fit toolholders on CNC vertical and horizontal machining centers. Compatible workpiece materials include steel, stainless steel, cast iron, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials per input data.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the spindle and machine tool are fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or changing tooling. Use a properly sized and balanced holder to the runout tolerances specified by the machine manufacturer. Consult the machining center manufacturer guidelines and applicable shop safety standards when establishing cutting parameters.
