The KENNAMETAL 6388793 is a carbide replaceable tip drill featuring the KTFSS14600HPGM tip insert with a KCP15A manufacturer grade and AlTiN PVD coating. Designed for precision hole-making in steel and cast iron, this drill accepts a solid carbide insert held by a clamp-style seat and delivers consistent performance in demanding metal-cutting environments. The 14.6mm (0.5748 inch) cutting diameter, 2-flute helical configuration, and HPG insert geometry combine to support accurate entry and chip evacuation. Machinists and tooling technicians working in production or job-shop environments are the primary users of this tooling system.
This replaceable tip drill is suited for drilling applications in ferrous materials, including steel and cast iron, across both production machining and general metalworking environments. Its KTFS series design supports inclined exit drilling and stacked plate drilling in addition to standard through and blind-hole operations. The standard spiral and 2-flute, 2-margin configuration makes it effective for maintaining hole quality in interrupted or variable-entry cuts. No internal coolant delivery is available with this configuration, so external or flood coolant is recommended for heat management in extended drilling cycles.
Designed for use with the KTFS series replaceable tip drill system. Tip ISO number KTFSS14600HPGM fits the corresponding S-size insert seat on compatible KTFS series drill bodies. Confirm body seat size and series compatibility before ordering.
Installation and tip changes should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician following the machine tool manufacturer and toolholder guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is locked out before changing the replaceable tip. Use the correct torque tool specified by the toolholder manufacturer for the clamp screw - do not overtighten or use impact tools. Verify runout and tip seating before resuming cutting operations.
