The KENNAMETAL 6388790 is a replaceable drill tip designed for use with compatible modular drill bodies in demanding metal-cutting applications. This tip features a 26.00 mm (1.0236 inch) cutting diameter, a 180-degree flat point angle, and a solid carbide construction with a fine grain carbide substrate. The KCP15A manufacturer grade combined with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating delivers wear resistance and thermal stability when cutting steel and cast iron. The HPG insert geometry supports chip control in through-hole and interrupted-cut conditions. It installs into ZD-series insert seats using a clamp holding method and is intended for use by machinists and tooling technicians in production or job-shop environments.
This drill tip is suited for drilling operations in steel and cast iron workpieces, including inclined exit drilling and stacked-plate drilling configurations. The KTFSS series tip is a two-flute, two-margin design with a regular helical spiral and a standard point type. It does not include coolant-through capability, making it appropriate for applications where external or flood coolant is used. Typical use cases include CNC machining centers and turning centers running moderate-to-high feed rates in P- and K-class workpiece materials.
Designed as an OEM-style replaceable tip for KTFSS-series modular drill bodies accepting ZD insert seat size. Compatible workpiece materials include steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) as specified in the product attributes.
Installation and indexing of replaceable drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the tip. Use the manufacturer-specified torx or clamp screw driver as required by the drill body to achieve proper seating - do not overtighten by feel alone; follow the drill body manufacturer torque guidelines. Inspect the ZD seat for debris or damage before installing a new tip, as a contaminated seat can cause tip runout and premature failure.
