The KENNAMETAL 6388735 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for high-productivity hole-making in steel and cast iron. Built on the KTFSS series platform, the drill accepts a solid carbide KTFSS09375HPG tip with an HPG insert geometry and is offered in manufacturer grade KCP15A with an AlTiN finish applied via PVD coating. The cutting diameter is 15/16 inches (0.578 inches decimal), and the tip features a 180-degree included angle suited for standard point entry. Two helical flutes and a 2-margin configuration provide stable chip evacuation and wall finish in through-hole and interrupted-entry applications. Tip retention is achieved by mechanical clamp, supporting repeatable re-tip without scrapping the body.
This replaceable tip drill is intended for metalworking professionals in production machining environments. It is suited for drilling into steel and cast iron workpieces, including inclined exit surfaces and stacked plate configurations. The KTFSS series format targets CNC machining centers and turning centers where consistent hole location and cycle time matter. With a functional length of 0.4688 inches and an overall projection of 0.6668 inches, the tip is compact and appropriate for shallow-to-moderate depth drilling cycles.
Designed as an OEM-specification replaceable tip for KTFSS series drill bodies accepting ZB insert seat size. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO material code P) and cast iron (ISO material code K) per manufacturer data.
Replaceable tip drills in this class are installed and serviced by qualified CNC machinists or tool-room technicians. Before exchanging the tip, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torque tool and clamp sequence as specified in the KENNAMETAL KTFSS body documentation to seat the tip against the ZB insert pocket — improper seating can cause tip movement and hole-location error. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before installing a new tip.
