The KENNAMETAL 6388726 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip designed for use with KTFSS-series modular drill bodies. It carries the ISO designation KTFSS04688HPG and is manufactured to grade KCP15A using fine-grain carbide substrate. The tip measures 0.4688 inches in cutting diameter and features a 180-degree point angle with an HPG insert geometry. A PVD-applied AlTiN coating extends wear resistance across a range of ferrous workpiece materials. With two helical flutes and a two-margin design, this tip is suited for precision hole-making in production environments where dimensional consistency and tool life are both critical.
This replaceable tip is intended for metal-cutting applications in steel and cast iron workpieces, covering ISO material groups P and K. The HPG geometry supports drilling into inclined exits, stacked plates, and standard through-hole and blind-hole applications. It fits an insert seat size M on compatible KTFSS modular drill holders. Licensed machinists and CNC machining center operators in aerospace, automotive, and general metalworking industries are the primary installers of this tip style.
Designed for use with KTFSS-series modular drill holders accepting insert seat size M. Compatible primary workpiece materials are steel and cast iron (ISO material groups P and K). The ISO part number for this tip is KTFSS04688HPG.
Installation and replacement of this drill tip should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the machine tool builder and toolholder manufacturer torque and seating guidelines. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state before removing or installing any replaceable tip. Inspect the insert seat on the drill body for chips, debris, or wear before seating the new tip. Follow KTFSS holder documentation for correct clamping method and seating procedure.
