The KENNAMETAL 6388698 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip designed for indexable drilling systems in ferrous machining operations. Built to KTFSS series specifications, this tip features a 180-degree point angle with an HPG insert geometry and a PVD-applied AlTiN coating for extended tool life under demanding cutting conditions. The cutting diameter measures 0.4252 inches (10.80 mm), with a functional length of 0.2126 inches and an overall projection of 0.3055 inches. It uses a K-size insert seat and is secured by clamp-style holding. Manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide, it is suited for productive, repeatable hole quality in steel and cast iron applications. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians are the typical end users.
This drill tip is intended for use in steel and cast iron workpieces, covering ISO material groups P and K. It supports helical, two-flute, two-margin cutting geometry with regular spiral configuration and no through-coolant. Typical applications include standard drilling, inclined-exit drilling, and stacked-plate drilling scenarios where a stable, rigid insert tip is required. The KTFSS series holder platform accommodates this tip style, making it appropriate for production turning centers and machining centers running moderate-to-high spindle speeds in job shop and manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in KTFSS series indexable drill bodies accepting a K insert seat size. Compatible with steel and cast iron workpieces (ISO material groups P and K). No through-coolant capability; select a compatible holder accordingly.
Installation and indexing of replaceable drill tips should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing any insert tip. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the holder manufacturer to achieve proper clamp torque without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket for debris or damage before seating a new tip to ensure accurate positioning and safe cutting performance.
