The KENNAMETAL 6388684 is a carbide replaceable tip drill designed for precision hole-making in steel and cast iron workpieces. It uses the KTFSS04063HPG tip insert, manufactured in grade KCP15A from fine-grain solid carbide with a PVD-applied AlTiN finish. The cutting diameter is 0.4063 inches (13/32 inches), and the drill features a 2-flute helical configuration with a regular spiral and a standard 180-degree drill point angle. The tip is secured by a clamp-style holding method in an insert seat size J. This tooling is suited for machinists and toolroom professionals working on CNC or manual drilling operations where repeatable accuracy and tip replaceability reduce per-hole cost.
This replaceable tip drill is intended for metalworking applications in manufacturing, job shops, and production environments. It is rated for drilling into steel and cast iron (ISO material codes P and K). The HPG insert geometry supports demanding drilling scenarios including inclined exit surfaces, stacked plate drilling, and standard through-hole and blind-hole operations. The 2-flute, 2-margin, no-coolant-through configuration makes it compatible with setups where internal coolant delivery is not available.
The KTFSS04063HPG tip is part of the KTFS series replaceable tip drill system and mounts in insert seat size J. Compatible with steel and cast iron workpiece materials (ISO P and K material codes). No internal coolant-through capability; use with external coolant or dry cutting as required by the application.
Installation and tip changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered off and in a locked-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key driver as specified for the clamp screw on the KTFS series holder to seat the insert correctly. Do not exceed the clamping torque range specified in the KENNAMETAL KTFS series toolholder documentation. Inspect the insert seat and clamping surfaces for wear or debris before each tip replacement to maintain runout accuracy.
