Product Description

The KENNAMETAL 6388663 is a solid carbide replaceable tip drill insert identified by ISO number KTFSS08125HPG, manufactured in grade KCP15A fine grain carbide. Designed for the KTFS series drill body system, this insert features a 13/16 inch (0.8125 inch) cutting diameter and a PVD-applied AlTiN coating for heat and wear resistance at the cutting edge. The helical flute geometry uses a 2-flute, 2-margin configuration with a standard point type and regular spiral, suited for productive hole-making in steel and cast iron. Metalworking shops and machining operations running KTFS-series drill bodies use this replaceable tip to restore cutting performance without replacing the full drill body.

This insert is intended for production drilling applications in steel (ISO material group P) and cast iron (ISO material group K). Specific application categories supported include drilling on inclined exit surfaces and drilling through stacked plates, making it a practical option in structural fabrication, general machining, and die-mold environments. The insert does not include internal coolant-through capability. Functional length is 0.4063 inches and overall projection is 0.5799 inches, keeping the insert compact within the tool assembly.

Key Features

  • Solid carbide construction in fine grain KCP15A grade for edge stability in hard workpiece materials
  • PVD AlTiN coating applied for thermal protection and extended tool life in steel and cast iron
  • HPG insert geometry with 2-flute, 2-margin design for controlled chip evacuation
  • Supports inclined exit and stacked plate drilling applications
  • Replaceable tip format reduces tooling cost compared to full solid carbide drill replacement
  • Standard point type with regular spiral for consistent entry and straightness

Compatibility

Designed for use with KENNAMETAL KTFS series replaceable tip drill bodies accepting insert seat size Y and ISO style KTFSS. Confirmed compatible applications include steel (P-grade) and cast iron (K-grade) workpiece materials per the manufacturer specification.

Installation Notes

Installation of replaceable tip drill inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. The insert is held by a clamp mechanism within the drill body; follow the drill body manufacturer torque specifications for the clamping screw. Ensure the drill body and insert seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert, as contamination at the interface can cause runout and premature insert failure. Do not exceed the recommended cutting parameters for the KCP15A grade on the selected workpiece material.
