The KENNAMETAL 6388544 is a replaceable drill tip in the KTFSS series, designed for use with compatible modular drill bodies in metal-cutting applications. The tip measures 0.6563 inches (17.00 mm) in cutting diameter and features a 180-degree point angle for flat-entry drilling. Constructed from solid carbide with a fine grain material grade, it carries a KCP15A manufacturer grade and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process. With a functional length of 0.3282 inches and an overall projection of 0.4695 inches, this tip is dimensioned for precision interchangeability in high-production environments. Machinists and tooling specialists install this tip as a cost-effective alternative to replacing entire drill assemblies.
This replaceable tip is suited for drilling steel and cast iron workpieces, referenced by primary workpiece material codes P and K. The HPG insert geometry and regular helical spiral flutes are configured for standard drilling as well as inclined-exit and stacked-plate drilling scenarios. The insert seat size is U, and the tip is secured using a clamp holding method. With 2 flutes and 2 margins and no through-coolant, it fits setups where external coolant delivery is used. This tip is appropriate for CNC machining centers and modular drill setups in job shop and production environments.
Designed for use with KTFSS series modular drill bodies accepting insert seat size U. ISO number KTFSS06563HPG identifies the compatible seat and geometry interface. Verify seat size and series designation on the drill body before installation.
Replaceable drill tips of this type are installed and removed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians using the manufacturer-specified torque wrench or key for the clamp mechanism. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before tip exchange. Inspect the insert seat on the drill body for damage, debris, or wear before seating the new tip, as seat condition directly affects runout and tool life. Follow the drill body manufacturer torque procedure for the clamping mechanism - do not use improvised tools on the clamp interface.
