The KENNAMETAL 6371988 is a straight-shank indexable drill body from the KenTIP FS series, designed for deep-hole drilling operations at an 8xD depth-to-diameter ratio. With a 12 mm shank diameter and an overall length of 154 mm, this drill body accepts interchangeable KenTIP FS (KTFS) insert tips, allowing fast tip changes without removing the body from the spindle. Through-coolant capability is built in, supporting high-pressure coolant delivery directly to the cutting zone to extend tip life and improve chip evacuation. This tool is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers and lathes.
The 6371988 is suited for production drilling in both job-shop and high-volume manufacturing environments. The 8xD depth ratio makes it appropriate for applications requiring deep, accurate holes in a single pass without peck cycles on capable machines. The straight-cylindrical shank mounts directly into standard collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, or Weldon-style holders that accept 12 mm shanks. The 104.60 mm flute length and 46 mm shank length provide the clearance and grip needed for stable, deep-reach drilling.
Designed for use with KenTIP FS series insert tips using the KTFS toolholder interface. Compatible with standard 12 mm collet chucks, hydraulic chucks, and shrink-fit holders. Specific tip compatibility should be confirmed against the KenTIP FS series selection guide for the target diameter and application.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool builder guidelines for tool clamping torque and runout specification. Ensure the spindle and coolant supply are fully de-energized and locked out before changing or inspecting the insert tip. Confirm through-coolant port alignment with the machine spindle coolant circuit before initiating a cutting cycle. Verify shank grip length meets the toolholder manufacturer minimum engagement specification before use.
