The KENNAMETAL 6371009 is a solid carbide replaceable drill tip engineered for precision hole-making in stainless steel and other difficult-to-machine materials. Part of the KTFST series, this tip features a 140-degree point angle with an HPL insert geometry and an AlTiN coating applied via PVD process. The fine-grain carbide substrate and KCMS15 grade designation make it well-suited for demanding cutting conditions where edge stability and heat resistance are critical. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and thermal management at the cutting zone. It mounts using a clamp-style insert holding method and fits an Insert Seat Size G holder.
This replaceable tip is designed for use in modular drill systems targeting stainless steel (ISO material code M) in both production and job-shop environments. Its helical, regular-spiral flute design with 2 flutes and 2 margins is optimized for applications that include straight drilling, inclined exit drilling, and stacked plate drilling. Typical installations are found on CNC machining centers and lathe turrets where repeatable tip replacement reduces downtime compared to regrinding solid drills.
Designed for use with KTFST series modular drill bodies accepting Insert Seat Size G. ISO number KTFST08600HPLM identifies the tip geometry and seat interface. Verify holder seat size and series designation before ordering.
Replaceable drill tips of this type are installed and removed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians using the appropriate torque wrench or clamp key specified by the holder manufacturer. Always de-energize and lock out the machine spindle before handling or replacing the insert. Inspect the insert seat for chips or wear before seating the new tip, as debris on the seating surface will affect runout and tool life. Follow the holder manufacturer's clamping procedure to ensure proper seating without over-torquing.
