The KENNAMETAL 6370978 is a replaceable drill tip in the KTFST series, designed for use with compatible modular drill bodies in precision machining applications. Manufactured from fine-grain solid carbide and coated with AlTiN via a PVD process, this tip delivers thermal resistance and wear performance needed for demanding drilling operations. The 140-degree point angle and HPL insert geometry are optimized for clean entry and exit in difficult materials. With a cutting diameter of 0.8125 inches and a 2-flute, 2-margin helical flute design, the tip maintains stability and chip evacuation during through-coolant-assisted cutting. It is sized to seat size Y and is installed using a clamp-style holding method.
This replaceable tip is intended for machining stainless steel and similarly difficult-to-cut workpiece materials, designated under primary workpiece material code M. The helical flute geometry and regular spiral type support drilling into inclined exit surfaces and stacked plate configurations. Through-coolant capability helps manage heat and chip removal in deep-hole and interrupted-cut scenarios. Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom professionals working in aerospace, medical, energy, and industrial manufacturing environments where tight tolerances and surface integrity are required.
Designed for use with compatible KTFST-series modular drill bodies that accept seat size Y replaceable tips. ISO number KTFST08125HPL identifies the tip geometry for proper body matching. Verify body seat size and series compatibility before installation.
Replaceable drill tips of this type are installed and serviced by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Ensure the drill body is fully removed from the spindle and the machine is in a safe, de-energized state before handling or replacing the tip. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified by the drill body manufacturer to seat the insert to the proper clamping force. Do not exceed the insert seat size Y interface with incompatible body styles, as improper seating can cause tip ejection during cutting.
