The KENNAMETAL 6351256 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill designed for demanding metal-cutting applications. It features a 140-degree split point, an AlTiN (aluminum titanium nitride) coating, and a 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank. The overall length is 3.228 inches (82 mm) with a flute length of 1.693 inches (43 mm). Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and thermal management at depth. This drill is installed by machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC machining centers, drill presses, and manual mills where tight-tolerance hole quality is required.
This drill is optimized for cutting stainless steel and high-temperature alloys, material groups that demand high edge hardness, heat resistance, and rigidity. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio and two-flute spiral geometry are suited to through-hole and blind-hole operations in these materials. Typical applications include aerospace, defense, and industrial fabrication environments where stainless and nickel-based alloys are common workpiece materials. The KCMS15 material grade is a specialized carbide formulation selected for toughness and wear resistance in these alloy categories.
Designed for use in stainless steel and high-temperature alloy workpieces. The 1/4 inch straight cylindrical shank fits standard drill chucks and ER collet toolholders with a 0.250 inch bore capacity. Fits drill size range 0.2000 to 0.2500 decimal inch (5.00 to 6.00 mm).
Installation and tool changes should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine spindle fully stopped and all motion axes at rest. Confirm collet or chuck runout is within acceptable tolerance before use, as excessive runout accelerates carbide edge chipping. Coolant-through drills require a machine spindle with internal coolant delivery or an appropriate coolant-through toolholder to activate the through-coolant feature. Handle carbide tooling carefully to avoid edge contact with hard surfaces during storage and setup.
