The KENNAMETAL 6194540 is a solid carbide milling insert in the RPPT series, designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding machining environments. Carrying the KCSM40 manufacturer grade, this insert features a dual PVD coating of TiAlN and TiN applied over a solid carbide substrate. The round RPPT insert shape provides 4 cutting edges with a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 18 degrees, and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. It measures 0.187 inches thick with an inscribed circle of 0.472 inches. Insert holding is via screw, making it compatible with standard round-insert milling bodies designed for RPPT-style tooling.
This insert is engineered for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering ISO material groups P, M, and S. Its GDX chip breaker geometry is suited for moderate to aggressive cutting conditions where chip control and edge stability are critical. The 11-degree relief angle and positive rake geometry reduce cutting forces and heat generation at the insert edge. Typical install scenarios include face milling, shoulder milling, and circular milling operations on CNC machining centers in industrial manufacturing environments. The insert is single-sided and sold individually.
Designed for use with the Kennametal 7713VR12 cutter series. Conforms to ANSI and ISO standards with catalog designation RPPT1204M0SGDX4. Insert size code is 1204, with an inscribed circle range of 0.400 to 0.500 inches and a thickness range of 0.185 to 0.200 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians using appropriate torx or hex key drivers as specified by the cutter body manufacturer. Always index or replace inserts with the spindle powered down and the machine in a locked-out state per facility LOTO procedures. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or contamination before seating a new insert. Do not exceed the cutter body manufacturer's recommended speed and feed parameters for the RPPT insert pocket design.
