The KENNAMETAL 6185770 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the manufacturer part designation XELT160512ERD41 in KCSM40 grade. It features a PVD-applied TiAlN plus TiN dual coating designed to extend tool life when cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The square insert profile includes four right-hand cutting edges with a positive rake geometry and a honed cutting edge style. The D41 chip breaker configuration promotes controlled chip formation during high-feed milling operations. At 0.2188 inches thick and 0.6610 inches inscribed circle diameter, this insert fits standard XEPT-series tooling and is sized to the ISO code XELT160512ERD41 and ANSI code XEPT160512ERD41.
This insert is intended for use in face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed milling applications across a range of ferrous and exotic workpiece materials. Its primary material application includes P-class steels, M-class stainless steels, and S-class superalloys and titanium alloys. It is compatible with the 7792VXE16 cutter series and is held in place by a screw-type clamping method. The KCSM40 grade is suited for both roughing and semi-finishing passes where thermal resistance and edge toughness are required. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers in production and job-shop environments are the typical end users.

Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the milling cutter body is fully de-energized and the spindle is locked before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque driver as specified by the cutter body manufacturer when securing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and screw threads for debris or wear before installing a new insert.
