The KENNAMETAL 6171591 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation EDCT140431PDERGD and manufacturer grade KCSM40. It features a parallelogram shape with a 70-degree included angle, two cutting edges, and a right-hand orientation. The insert measures 17.50 mm (0.6890 inches) in length, 8.50 mm (0.3310 inches) in width, and 4.50 mm (0.1772 inches) in thickness. A PVD-applied TiAlN plus TiN multilayer coating provides heat and wear resistance at the cutting edge. The 15-degree positive rake angle and honed cutting edge style reduce cutting forces when machining difficult materials. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and tooling specialists working with CNC milling platforms install this insert.
This insert is engineered for aggressive milling of steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium — workpiece material codes P, M, and S. The GD chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation in interrupted and continuous cuts. It is secured via screw-holding method into compatible milling toolholders. Typical applications include face milling, shoulder milling, and profiling operations on CNC machining centers in manufacturing and job-shop environments where tool life and edge security in tough alloys are priorities.
Designed for use with the Mill 1-14 cutter series. ANSI code EC1431EGD and ISO code EDCT140431PDERGD. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards for the EDCT series.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the milling spindle is fully de-energized and locked out before seating or removing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper screw-clamp torque without over-tightening. Inspect the pocket seating surface for debris or damage before installing a new insert to avoid premature edge failure.
