The KENNAMETAL 6171520 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying the ISO designation EDCT140416PDERGD and manufacturer grade KCSM40. It features a parallelogram shape with an included angle of 70 degrees, a positive rake angle of 15 degrees, and a 15-degree relief angle. The cutting edge is honed for consistent performance, and the insert is coated with a TiAlN plus TiN multilayer finish applied via PVD process. With 2 cutting edges per insert and a right-hand orientation, it is designed for high-performance face and shoulder milling operations. Licensed HVAC technicians and machinists in metalworking environments install and index this insert on compatible milling cutter bodies.
This insert is suited for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, covering primary workpiece material codes P, M, and S. It is intended for use in demanding production environments such as aerospace, energy, and general machining where tool life and edge integrity in difficult materials are critical. The GD chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation during wet or dry milling passes. The insert is held in place via a screw-type clamping method and is compatible with the Mill 1-14 cutter series. It ships individually but must be ordered in multiples of 5.
Designed for use with the Mill 1-14 cutter series. ANSI code EC1416EGD and ISO code EDCT140416PDERGD identify compatible toolholders. Verify cutter pocket geometry and screw size before indexing.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before handling or replacing inserts. Use the correct torx or hex key to the cutter manufacturer's specified seating procedure when securing the clamping screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the pocket seating surface for chips or debris before installing a new insert to ensure proper seating and runout.
