The KENNAMETAL 6165422 is a solid carbide milling insert in the LNGU series, grade KCSM40, designed for high-performance metal cutting in demanding machining environments. The insert features a TiAlN plus TiN physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering heat resistance and wear protection during high-speed milling. It measures 17.00 mm in length, 10.00 mm in width, and 7.00 mm in thickness, with an inscribed circle of 0.3940 inches and a 1/32-inch corner radius. With four cutting edges, a positive rake geometry, and a honed cutting edge style with the GE chip breaker, this insert is suited for productive, repeatable face and shoulder milling operations. Installation is performed by machinists and tool crib technicians using the screw-hold clamping method.
This insert is intended for milling steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpieces, corresponding to material application codes P, M, and S. The rectangular LNGU insert shape and positive rake geometry make it well suited for light-to-moderate depth-of-cut applications where chip control and surface finish consistency are priorities. It is compatible with the Mill 4-15 cutter series. The right-hand insert orientation and 90-degree included angle are standard configurations for shoulder milling tool bodies that accept the LNGU insert style. This insert is sold individually with a minimum order quantity of 10 units.
Compatible with Mill 4-15 cutter series toolholders that accept LNGU-style inserts. ANSI code LNGU542ERGE and ISO code LNGU15T608ERGE apply for cross-reference to compatible bodies and holders.
Insert replacement is performed by machinists or tooling technicians following standard carbide insert change procedures. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool body is secured before removing or installing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
