The KENNAMETAL 6140719 is a spiral flute tap designed for threading 3/4-10 UNC holes in demanding production environments. Built from cobalt high-speed steel and finished with a multi-layer TiCN/TiN coating, it delivers extended tool life in abrasive and work-hardening materials. The 45-degree helix angle promotes aggressive chip evacuation up and out of the hole, reducing the risk of chip packing in blind-hole applications. With a modified bottoming chamfer, it threads closer to the bottom of a blind hole than a plug tap. Overall length is 4.25 inches with a thread length of 1.22 inches and a maximum tapping depth of 2.08 inches. Installed by machinists and tool-room professionals on CNC machining centers and manual drill presses.
This tap is intended for right-hand threading in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and other non-ferrous materials. The modified bottoming chamfer makes it particularly suited to blind-hole work where thread engagement close to the bottom of the bore is required. The H3 thread limit provides a tolerance class appropriate for standard-fit threaded fastener applications across general industrial and structural fabrication work. Coolant-through capability is not included on this tap, so conventional flood or mist coolant delivery applies.
Designed for use in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, and non-ferrous materials as noted in manufacturer specifications. Suitable for standard tap holders and tension-compression tapping chucks accommodating a 0.59-inch shank diameter with a 0.439-inch square drive.
This tap should be installed by a qualified machinist following established threading procedures. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the spindle is fully stopped before changing or inspecting tooling. Apply appropriate cutting fluid or flood coolant for the workpiece material to minimize heat buildup and extend tool life. Inspect the tap for chipping or wear before each use; a damaged tap run under power can seize in the bore and damage the workpiece.
