The KENNAMETAL 6128138 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ISO designation EDCT180508PDERGD and manufacturer grade KCPM40. It features a TiAlN and AlCrN PVD coating applied over a solid carbide substrate, delivering hardness and thermal resistance suited to demanding milling operations. The insert has a parallelogram shape with an included angle of 70 degrees, a positive rake geometry at 15 degrees, and a honed cutting edge. With two cutting edges and a right-hand orientation, it is designed for use by machinists and CNC operators running milling cutters in production environments cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium.
This insert is intended for milling applications in both production shop and job shop environments. It fits into cutter bodies compatible with the Mill 1-18 series and is sized to the ANSI code EC1808E. The GD chip breaker geometry is optimized for primary workpiece materials coded P, M, and S - covering carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, and superalloys including titanium. It is suited to moderate to aggressive depth-of-cut scenarios where edge integrity and coating performance are critical to tool life.
Compatible with Mill 1-18 series cutter bodies. Insert conforms to ANSI code EC1808E and ISO designation EDCT180508PDERGD. Sized within the EDCT series with an insert size code of 1808.
Installation is performed by machinist or CNC tooling technician using the appropriate torque wrench and screw supplied with or specified for the compatible cutter body - always consult the cutter body manufacturer torque specification before seating the insert. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing inserts. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect runout and edge life. Handle solid carbide inserts carefully to avoid chipping edges prior to use.
