The KENNAMETAL 6012727 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Beyond Evolution series, designed for external grooving and cutoff operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the ER-P insert style with a GUP chip breaker geometry, it delivers a 0.25 inch (6.35 mm) cutting width and a maximum depth of cut of 0.1511 inch (3.84 mm). The insert carries a PVD-applied AlTiN coating on a KCU10 carbide grade, providing thermal resistance and wear resistance suited to steel, stainless, and similar workpiece materials. Neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to both left-hand and right-hand toolholders that accept the ER-P seat.

This insert is intended for precision grooving applications where consistent depth control and surface finish are critical. The full-radius nose geometry with a 3.17 mm (1/8 inch) corner radius suits full-radius grooving and plunge operations. It is sized for Insert Size 6 toolholders with a 10-degree positive rake angle and a 4-degree lead angle. Installation is performed by licensed machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments. Minimum order quantity is 10 inserts; individual package quantity is 1.

Installation Notes

Installation and indexing of carbide grooving inserts should be performed by qualified machinists with the machine spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, tagged-out state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert clamp to proper engagement — do not overtighten by feel alone. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating the insert. Verify depth-of-cut programming does not exceed the 3.84 mm maximum depth of cut for this insert geometry.
