The KENNAMETAL 6012713 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Beyond Evolution series, designed for precision external grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries a KCU10 grade designation with a PVD-applied AlTiN coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. It features a neutral hand orientation, a GUP chip breaker geometry, and a 27-degree rake angle with positive rake for clean chip evacuation. With a cutting width of 3.18 mm (0.125 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 2.2 mm (0.088 inches), this insert is suited for fine grooving work where dimensional accuracy is critical. Machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments install and index this insert during scheduled tooling changes.
This insert is intended for grooving applications in metalworking operations where consistent groove width and controlled chip formation are required. It fits EG-P style toolholders compatible with the Beyond Evolution insert system. The GUP chip breaker is optimized for light to moderate depth grooving within the depth-of-cut range of 2.00 mm to 3.00 mm (0.075 inches to 0.100 inches). It is suited for use on materials where AlTiN coatings perform well, including steels and alloy workpieces in both low- and high-volume turning environments.
Designed for use with EG-P style grooving toolholders in the Beyond Evolution series system. Insert size 3 with a cutting height of 4.01 mm (0.158 inches) and overall width of 3.18 mm. Confirm toolholder series and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-tighten or substitute fasteners. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert, and verify secure clamping before resuming any cutting operation.
