The KENNAMETAL 5990954 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit designed for precision hole-making in aluminum and non-ferrous materials. It carries a 25/64 inch (0.3906 inch decimal) diameter with a 135-degree split-point angle that reduces walking and improves centering on entry. The overall length is 4.0551 inches and the flute length is 2.4016 inches, placing it firmly in the standard jobber range. Coolant-through capability supports chip evacuation and heat management in production drilling environments. This drill is intended for use by machinists and tool-and-die professionals running CNC machining centers or drill presses in job-shop and manufacturing settings.
This drill bit is suited for drilling aluminum, copper, brass, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. The 5xD flute-by-diameter ratio and right-hand spiral flute geometry support consistent chip removal at production feed and speed rates. The 3-flat shank provides a secure, slip-resistant grip in standard drill chucks and tool holders. Typical applications include aerospace component machining, automotive parts production, and precision fabrication work where tight hole tolerances are required. Diameter tolerance is held to 0.0002 to 0.0008 inches, making it suitable for close-tolerance bore preparation.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers and drill presses with standard chuck or collet toolholding systems that accept a 10 mm (approximately 0.394 inch) shank. Optimized for aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials per manufacturer specification.
Installation and use should be performed by qualified machinists familiar with carbide tooling. Carbide is brittle — avoid side loads, interrupted cuts, or hard impacts that can chip the cutting edge. Ensure spindle runout is within acceptable limits before mounting, as excessive runout will accelerate edge wear and degrade hole tolerance. Confirm coolant lines are clear and flowing before beginning through-coolant drilling operations.
