The KENNAMETAL 5990787 is a solid carbide jobber-length drill bit sized to No. 29 wire gauge (0.1360 inches decimal equivalent). It features a 135-degree split-point geometry for fast penetration and reduced walking on entry, and a bright uncoated finish suited for dry or mist-assisted cutting. The overall length is 2.598 inches (66.00 mm), with a flute length of 1.102 inches (28.00 mm). A 3-flat shank in 6 mm diameter locks securely in standard chucks and prevents rotation under load. This drill is installed by machining technicians, toolroom operators, and precision fabricators working in production or job-shop environments.
The 5990787 is rated for aluminum and non-ferrous workpiece materials, making it a direct choice for cutting aluminum extrusions, brass, copper, and similar alloys. The 5xD flute-to-diameter ratio supports chip evacuation in moderately deep holes up to 23.00 mm (0.906 inches) maximum drilling depth. The right-hand spiral flute and 2-flute configuration keep cutting forces balanced during high-speed rotation. Coolant-through capability allows internal coolant or air delivery to the cutting zone when paired with a compatible spindle and toolholder setup.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide jobber drill for use in CNC machining centers, drill presses, and other spindle equipment accepting a 6 mm flatted shank, primarily in aluminum and non-ferrous material applications.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the spindle fully stopped and the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable machine guarding and OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the 3-flat shank fully into a compatible drill chuck or collet and verify all flats are engaged before securing. Carbide tooling is brittle — avoid side loading, interrupted cuts, or hammering the shank during setup. A licensed machinist or qualified toolroom technician should verify speed, feed, and depth parameters before production use.
