The KENNAMETAL 5989963 is a solid carbide turning insert with ANSI designation CNMG433MG and ISO designation CNMG120412, coated with a multilayer MTCVD CVD system comprising TiCN, Al2O3, and TiOCN. Manufactured under the KCP25B grade, it delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it suited for steel and cast iron machining across roughing and medium machining operations. The insert features an 80-degree diamond rhombic shape, a neutral hand orientation, and four usable cutting edges with chamfered and honed cutting edge geometry. It falls within the KENLOC series and is held in place via clamp or pin methods. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert on turning centers and lathes.
The KENNAMETAL 5989963 is designed for turning, facing, and boring operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. It is rated for primary workpiece material codes P and N, covering general steels and non-ferrous materials with moderate wear resistance and toughness to high toughness characteristics. The MG chip breaker geometry supports both roughing and medium machining passes, allowing versatile use across roughing and finishing stages without changing insert style. This makes it a practical multi-use insert for production turning environments where minimizing tool changes is a priority.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for toolholders and systems within the KENLOC series that accept CNMG433 or CNMG120412 geometry inserts with clamp or pin holding methods.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully in the pocket and secure using the appropriate clamp or pin torque driver per the toolholder manufacturer guidelines. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper support and runout.
