The KENNAMETAL 5981012 is an external indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for precision groove turning on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built in the Beyond Evolution series with an EVSC-T style body, it accepts EG0300M03P02 inserts held by a clamp-style insert holding method. The toolholder handles a fixed groove width of 3 mm and a maximum depth of cut of 16 mm (0.630 inches). A 3/4 x 3/4 inch (19.05 x 19.05 mm) square shank provides rigid setup, and integrated through-coolant delivery directs fluid directly to the cutting zone for extended insert life and improved chip evacuation. This is a left-hand configuration.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving, profiling, and cutoff operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces in production turning environments. It is installed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians on manual or CNC turning centers where consistent groove geometry and coolant-assisted chip control are required. The clamp insert retention system allows for fast insert indexing without removing the holder from the turret, reducing changeover time during high-volume runs.
Designed for use with EG0300M03P02 inserts. Mount size is 1212. Fits standard turning center turrets accepting a 3/4 inch square shank toolholder.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or changing inserts. Ensure shank is fully seated and clamped to the specified turret torque per machine manufacturer guidelines before operation. Confirm through-coolant port alignment with the machine coolant supply before running.
