The KENNAMETAL 5980820 is an indexable grooving and cutoff toolholder designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built to the EVSC-T toolholder style within the Beyond Evolution series, it accepts EG0300M03P02 inserts held by a clamp-style insert retention method. The holder features through-coolant capability, directing cutting fluid directly to the insert tip for improved chip evacuation and tool life. It handles a fixed groove width of 3 mm (0.118 inches) and a maximum depth of cut of 26 mm (1.024 inches). The 3/4 x 3/4 inch shank fits standard lathe toolblocks at mount size 1212. Right-hand cutting orientation. Weight is 0.635 pounds.
This toolholder is suited for external grooving, parting-off, and cutoff work in production turning environments. The Beyond Evolution series is engineered for demanding materials and high-cycle operations where consistent insert seating and coolant delivery are critical. Machinists and CNC programmers working in job shops, production facilities, or toolroom settings will find this holder appropriate for applications requiring precise groove geometry at 3 mm. The through-coolant feature makes it particularly well suited to difficult-to-machine alloys and stainless steels where heat management at the cutting edge is a priority.
Designed to accept EG0300M03P02 inserts with insert seat size 3.0. Mount size 1212 shank is compatible with standard 3/4 inch square-shank lathe toolholding systems.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is indexed to a safe position before inserting or removing the toolholder. Confirm the through-coolant supply line is properly connected and that coolant pressure is appropriate for the machine before running. Torque insert clamp screws to the insert manufacturer specification using a calibrated torque wrench; do not over-tighten.
