The KENNAMETAL 5976170 is a solid carbide milling insert in the LNGU series, designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining environments. Carrying the KCPM40 manufacturer grade, this insert features a TiAlN and AlCrN PVD coating that extends tool life when cutting steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium. The rectangular LNGU insert style measures 10.00 mm wide and 6.96 mm thick, with a 0.031 inch corner radius for controlled edge engagement. With 4 cutting edges per insert, it delivers consistent cost-per-edge value for production milling operations. It is installed by machinists and tooling technicians working with compatible indexable milling cutters.
This insert is suited for indexable face and shoulder milling applications involving steel, stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials — material application codes P, M, and S. It is a right-hand, single-sided insert with a positive rake geometry and a chamfered and honed cutting edge style. The GEM chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip formation across these material groups. Compatible with the Mill 4-15 cutter series, it fits applications requiring a maximum depth of cut up to 0.787 inches. The screw-style insert holding method ensures secure seating in the cutter body during operation.
Designed for use with the Mill 4-15 cutter series. ANSI code LNGU542SRGEM and ISO code LNGU15T608SRGEM. Insert size code 542. Compatible with tools accepting LNGU series inserts within inscribed circle range 0.3500 to 0.4000 inches and thickness range 0.2500 to 0.3500 inches.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the milling cutter body is secured and the machine spindle is fully powered down before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key driver for the cutter body screw to seat the insert firmly without over-driving. Inspect the insert pocket and screw for damage or debris before installing a new insert.
