The KENNAMETAL 5968075 is a solid carbide grooving insert in the Top Notch series, designed for external grooving and parting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a KCP25B grade designation with a CVD-applied TiOCN coating, providing wear resistance across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert has a left-hand orientation, a cutting width of 0.125 inches (3.17 mm), and a maximum depth of cut of 0.150 inches (3.81 mm). A positive rake angle and K-style chip breaker geometry support controlled chip formation during grooving passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible Top Notch toolholders.
This insert is suited for turning operations on lathes and machining centers where precise groove width and depth control are required. The NG4K insert style fits the Top Notch clamp-style toolholder system, making it a common choice for shops running production grooving on ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 0.19 mm corner radius and positive rake geometry support clean groove floor finishes with reduced cutting forces. It is applicable in both roughing and semi-finishing grooving scenarios within its rated depth-of-cut range.
Designed for use with Top Notch series clamp-style grooving toolholders accepting an NG insert style in insert seat size 4 with a 3/8-inch gage diameter. Specific toolholder compatibility should be confirmed against KENNAMETAL Top Notch system documentation prior to installation.
Carbide grooving inserts are installed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and torque the clamping screw according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert seat for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause premature insert failure or dimensional error.
